 Congress approved Roosevelt's declaration of war on Japan. 3 days after this, Japan's allies Germany and Italy declared war on the United States.

  The next day, President Roosvelt, in his speech said: “No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory. I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.”

 The surprised attack was finished and all battleships in Pearl Harbor had sustained significant damage. 2403 sailors, soldiers and civilians were killed and some 1000 people were injured.

 An 1,800 pound bomb landed.  The ship exploded and sank leaving more than 1000 men trapped inside.
